3 DATES

(Tracking Number: 117)1Parker is a well-meaning but neurotic single guy in the city. He goes on Internet dates hoping to find love, but he always winds up saying the wrong thing. Then again, maybe part of the blame must be laid on the neuroses of the girls, too. Particularly his current prospect, Marni. The film opens with Parker rushing into a coffee shop. He scans the shop and finds his date, Marni. He apologizes awkwardly for being late. They go up to get drinks. She offers to pay. He says he’ll pay, but she insists. When they sit back down, however, it turns out that she’s not impressed that he let her pay. He protests that she insisted on paying. She counters that no guy has ever actually let her pay before. An argument ensues and eventually they decided the date is over. On the way out, though, she notes that this date went better than most. Next we see the Parker and Marni on their second date. They’ve just finished watching a rental movie. Parker enjoyed it. But Marni is mad. Why? Because Parker didn’t make a move on her during the movie. He points out that watching a movie was her idea, and that she even picked out which movie to watch. She informs him that “when a girl says ‘Let’s watch a movie,’ she doesn’t mean ‘Let’s watch a movie.’” This is news to Parker, another argument ensues, and she storms out. Finally, we see Parker and Marni on (miraculously), yet another date. This time they’re in bed together. In the throws of passion, Marni asks Parker to talk dirty to her. Turns out, however, that he’s not saying the words she wants to hear. He fumbles around trying to figure out what the right words are. Eventually they give up. She tries to get things going again by asking him what he wants her to do to him. He’s too shy to ask, though. And she insists on being asked. After he finally relents, things get moving again, until she says: “Tell me what I am.” He doesn’t want to mess up again, and she demands that he tell her what she is. Of course he says the wrong thing and she gets mad again. He finally snaps and tries to kick her out. But this has the effect of turning her on, and she jumps him.
