Which Shall It Be?

Impoverished but loving parents of seven children are offered a way out of their poverty. In return for a house and some land they must choose a child to give away - Which Shall It Be? They embark on an emotional tour of their house to select one of the sleeping offspring. Shot on location in Brazil this short film is based on a poem by Ethel Lynn Beers (1827 - 1879), it's subject as valid today as when it was penned over a hundred years ago.

All of the children featured in this short film attend AME (Assocação Mãos Estendidas) in the city of Londrina in Parana State, Brazil. AME is more than a school, they provide a refuge for children who would otherwise be wandering the streets, feed them and give them lessons in self worth, good manners, respect and hygiene. This project has had a great impact on the community with the children passing on a lot of what they learn back into their families, creating a safer and more harmonious way of living. The film was shot entirely using locations in this same community.
