Submitted by Cannon Karst Pr... on Mon, 03/01/2010 - 10:30
Filmmaker/actor Josef Cannon ( The Eagle Path, One Nil, Sister-Sister) returns to his south side Chicago neighborhood of Englewood with camera in hand to document his former elementary school, Simon Guggenheim as it fights a true David versus Goliath battle with the Chicago Public School Board. After being selected as one of 13 schools that face closure, consolidation or turnover. Guggenheim, led with a community effort that attracted Operation Push National Spokesman Jonathan Jackson who is the son of former Presidential nominee Rev. Jesse Jackson and brother of Illinois Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. to it's cause. This film highlights a close nit community in a drug and gang infested environment, fighting for the education they believe their children can achieve at an institution the school board wants to close for reasons that are suspicious. this is a film about ordinary people doing extraordinary things!
