An Evening of Latin Jazz with "The Collective"

An Evening of Latin Jazz with “The Collective” (15 May 2010) New York City. “The Collective” is at the forefront of the vibrant Latin Jazz scene in New York City. The band features some of the most highly respected Jazz musicians. “The Collective” is destined for international notoriety. Their classic sound is reminiscent of the golden era of jazz orchestras during New York’s Palladian Days,(1940-1960) when many jazz musicians made their debut in NYC. Achieving a large sound through innovative arrangement, and the inclusion of Afro- Cuban percussion instruments, such as the Tumbadoras (conga drums) Timbale, Bongos, and Clavas, “The Collective” represents the new wave of the revival of Latin Jazz, with innovative Jazz musicians unbound by musical styles. The nine-piece ensemble creates an exhilarating and soulful connection to the audience. Featuring the harmonic and sensuous tones of lead vocalist Carmen Estevez and vocalist/percussionist, Jacqueline Acevedo, the “hip” younger vocalists and musicians (20-35) have exceptional talent and improvisation skills. More experienced players include pianist Al Sutton with a diverse background in classical music, Jazz and Latin Jazz. Latin Jazz is a highly creative, cultural expression born of the Afro-Latino experience, connected to history and an important part of our culture. Relive the legacy of Latin Jazz with “The Collective” performing the Latin Jazz song by Ray Barretta and J. Roman, “Indestructible.” Produced by Al Sutton with Musical Director Bob Quaranta.
